Will changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear?

My front drive sprocket connecting to the chain wore down the teeth and ive been told by a friend that you have to change both sprockets if you change one. theres no damage to the chain or rear sprocket and i dont want to spend the extra money if i dont have to. thanks-kevinWill changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear? It's true that the two sprockets and chain should be replaced as a set, however I've been known when in a budget pinch, to change out just one of the three. Yes, everything wears out a little faster. Pay now or pay later. Will changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear?well if one is bad theres a really good chance they are all bad.... so really smarter to do them both and a new chain a bad sprocket more than likey it chain is bad too and really why spend money on one if you need both one bad will wear out the other both the chain and the back sprocket are cheaper than the front one and easier to change outWill changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear?Kevin, you don't have to change them both if one is fine. If it's over a year old, you might want to replace it as soon as you can, but nothing is going to happen if you don't.Will changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear?you %26quot;should%26quot; always replace the whole system, chain and two sprockets. Like any pieces of metal they have all become sympathetic to each other during their operating life.

in racing situations I used to swap back and forth quite a bit, but it's a little different, you are tearing parts up quicker while racing anyway, so you are paying to play, so to speak. For a daily driver you will want the most cost effective solution, which in most people's opinion is to replace it all.

I wonder why your front sprocket is worn down but your other components appear to be ok. How many miles on the front? on the chain and rear?

Also, for what it's worth, if you are going to be replacing the front, you will already be doing most of the work required to replace the chain, might as well just thread a new one in while the case is open, then changing the rear is usually just a half a dozen bolts in addition to the bits you've already done. Will changing only the worn front sprocket on a 1995 yzf600r street bike cause some type of detrimental wear?Would you buy 1 boot because the other one doesnt have hole in it??

They usualy wear out as a set not 1 part at a time

Get both sprockets and a chain Be done with it
