Will changing Transmission fluid mess up a car?

I have a 1993 ford crown vic, and today got the transmission fluid changed, I bought the car 5 years ago, never had it changed, I am the 2nd owner of the car.

The guy at the shop said the drop pan had %26quot;loads of metal in it and the old fluid was like glue.%26quot;

So did it help to change it or now will the new fluid cause the future problems?

(need a lot of answers on this)Will changing Transmission fluid mess up a car?no that is a good thing you changed it. The metal he found was pieces of the tranny from the fluid being broke down, and not being able to lubricate the parts. The new fluid should make the tranny run smoother and extend it's life.Will changing Transmission fluid mess up a car?The car would not have been running if the fluid was like glue. There will be crud in the pan, but not loads of it, unless the transmission was slammed and hot rodded constantly. There is a filter to catch that stuff. It's no telling what they guy did afterward to make you come back, but I suspect he is a cheat. If the car runs well, rest easy. If there are problems, go to a different shop. New fluid- as long as it's the right fluid- won't cause problems.Will changing Transmission fluid mess up a car?As a rule tranny fluid/filter should have maintance done every 50.000miles your car i would bet has never had any trany maint done to it and thats why the fluid was so bad and you had metal particlues in the screen/filter. if i were to venture a guess id say depending on the milage it could affect how much life is left in the trany before it needs a rebuild. see how it runs/shifts and keep a log of your milage when you fillup jot the trip milage down and keep track..Will changing Transmission fluid mess up a car?it should have been changed before this. all i can tell you is that i never had any trouble by changing the fluid and filter. sounds to me like the transmission fluid got pretty hot at 1 time.
