I went on to be a senior NCO in the US Army with a Top Secret Cosmic Atomal NATO Crypto security clearance. I doubt changing your name will prevent you from achieving anything in life that you are capable of. It certainly did not slow me down.

Changing your name doesn't mean you lose your identity or personal history such as for back round checks and what not. When you change your name, it shows up in a good back round check. It also doesn't mean that your social security number will change either (your primary form of identification). Even if you did change your social security, that would also show up in a good back round check. Everything you do that involves paperwork is traceable by the government and will not hender your career goals in any way shape or form.Will legally changing my name prevent me from becoming a Private Investigator or any kind of Detective?That would depend on what the purpose was in changing your name. If it was just because you wanted a different name then no problem. If it was because you wanted to hide something in your past then not the different name but the reason may have an effect on your becoming a detective. If it is because of the past and wasn't too serious then give it a try anyway. Explain the reason in your application.
