At that age, he'll be adjust to the name fairly easily. Just start using whatever name you choose and keep calling him by that, and reward him with praise or a treat when he responds. A couple days will probably do it. I adopted an 18 yr old Chi and changed her name. Was responding to the new name in a few days and after a week it came natural to her.
