How much fast will changing the memory chip in an ibook g4 make the computer?

My ibook g4 is mad slow and I am planning on changing the memory card out on it. But, the memory card is only 1gb so i cant se how it will make it any faster. Please tell what i need to do. Essentially I would like to clear all the programs off of it and completely clear out the memory. You should seriously consider just replacing it with a new computer.
